Humanitarian Aid in Helmand
Working in support of the Afghan Government, representatives from the Helmand-Provisional Reconstruction Team (H-PRT) visited the Internally Displaced Person registration point near the Bolan Bridge and the Humanitarian Assistance distribution point in central Lashkar Gah.
The found that the Afghan authorities are registering and providing assistance to IDPs, with support from the World Food Programme.
Government officials were seen to be dealing effectively with people who had left MARJEH and the systems that they had put in place were working well.
Over twenty trucks carrying food supplies sufficient to feed 5000 families were re-supplying the Humanitarian Assistance distribution point.
All IDPs spoken to were from Marjeh and were living with family and friends in Lashkar Gah and there appeared to be little demand for housing assistance.
Work to get the Provisional Disaster Management Committee (PDMC) into Marjah as quickly as possible to assess the need is ongoing under the direction of Governor Mangal.
